I am C.L. Simco, the owner and sole entity in this “One Man Handyman” business. There is no “WE” here. No large company or chain or corporate structure. I am using a template to help explain how I operate and maintain this website, because in today’s digital world, honesty, full disclosure and privacy are just as important as a century ago. It just so happens that this Privacy Policy template does a pretty good job of listing most of the topics that are necessary, and I can fill in the rest. In this opening couple of paragraphs I’m going to be using “plain english” to hit the high points because if you’re like me, you appreciate being able to understand what you’re reading and quickly get on with things.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

No. 1. I do not gather, store, sell, give away or use any of your personal information, or track you and your movements on the web. I’m not going to spam you or robo-call you, ’cause I hate that kind of behavior as much as you do.

No. 2. If you are reading this, it is most likely that you found me somewhere on the internet through a search that you performed using a Search Engine, or perhaps you saw an ad that I placed for the handyman business and clicked on it. Let’s be very clear at this point. I don’t have any arrangements, or secret deals, with any Third Parties to collect your information or anything about you.

In order for me to know if anyone is seeing the ads that I hope will bring customers to me, Google Ads, does aggregate information about how many times people see or click on my ads, and, related information that they collect about that process. That process is anonymous. That process is happening every time you use the internet, and we all have consented to that at one time or another on a regular basis in order to make the internet work better. What I DO NOT do or knowingly participate in, is any of the “Big Brother” and “1984” scenarios that we all do not want.

Comments

You may notice that there is no way for you or others to leave comments in the Blog / Posts page. That’s because I have disabled that feature. This website is built using WordPress as a foundation building block. That gives the capability to be just a blog, or, just a website, or both. If I wanted to spend my time as a moderator for that sort of thing then this discussion would be relevant. However, Twitter, Facebook and all of the other platforms seem to want to do that. I’m focused on other things like making a living as a Handyman. As a result, this part of the discussion is not really relevant, but the following paragraphs explain the how and why IF I WERE moderating comments. For information about what I DO use your information for, skip down a couple of paragraphs to the “Contact Forms” and “Cookies” sections.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

I do have a contact form on my Contact page. That form is used to send me an email. Should you decide to use that form as your preferred way to contact me, that’s all that form does. It just sends me an email with your message of request or comment. What information does it gather and retain? Nothing more than most other basic email forms. In order to send and receive an email you are using a service provider that has helped you set up an email account and is necessary for email to work. That information is part of the process if you choose to email me using my form, but I do not retain, store, use or sell any of that information. If you notice, I have stated at the top of the form that I prefer phone calls. However if you still want to email me, that’s fine, not a problem. I just think a phone call is more efficient for a lot of basic contact.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
